Instructions before dental surgery
(Extraction, gingival graft and implant)

  1. Stop taking Aspirin, Advil, or any other anti-inflammatory drugs 10 days prior to your surgery unless otherwise directed by your medical doctor.  If necessary, you may take Tylenol.
  2. Stop taking vitamin E one week prior to your surgery.
  3. Inform us if you are taking an anticoagulant such as Coumadin, Plavix, etc.
  4. Inform us if you take calcium supplements, drugs for osteoporosis and osteopenia such as Actonel, Fosamax, Didronel, Zometa or injections.
  5. Take the antibiotics that your dentist has prescribed.
  6. Take all other medications as prescribed by your medical doctor as usual (other than those mentioned above).  Do not forget to inform us of any medications or dietary supplements you take.
  7. Be sure to eat a light meal before your surgery.
  8. Plan to rest after surgery.  You will be able to drive to your appointment, but you should plan to have someone take you home.
  9. Wear comfortable clothing and bring your audio player (iPod, MP3) if you wish.
